Who are R.E.N. Machinery? Our StoryR.E.N. Machinery P/L is one of the oldest businesses in the Warragul district, and still operated by the same family that started it in 1948, by its founder Earl French.R.E.N. Machinery has been distributing industry leading machinery to the general farming community since its conception. These products include Massey Ferguson and Fendt tractors and a range of hay-silage and tillage equipment, so farmers can carry out their daily tasks with relevant ease, in the knowledge they have solid back up and service to keep them going for many years into the future. Company HistoryR.E.N. Machinery has been in the farm machinery distribution business since 1948, when it was first formed by Earl French and two of his air force colleagues after the 2nd World War. This partnership was to last until the early 60's, when Earl French bought the other partners out. Originally selling David Brown tractors and equipment and Austin cars, but changing over when Massey Ferguson was formed in the early 60's to an MF dealership and dropping the car franchise, staying as such until 1982 when we took on Iseki tractors and were in the top 10 dealers for the next ten years until Iseki was incorporated with Massey-Ferguson in Australia. In the late 80's R.E.N. sold Fendt tractors for a couple of years but it went to Vin Rowe Machinery when one of the sales team moved on as he had done when he came to us from Woods & Reeves earlier on. By this time Earl's son Gary had joined the team in parts to learn the business. At about the same time we took on the JCB franchise when it was introduced into Australia and slowly established the product into the market place to its current sales level today. During this period there was a downturn in the farm sector and to cut costs the workshop business was sold to Alan Slater, one of our mechanics at the time so we would not lose his service. Which in years to come proved to be a poor decision, as this dried up our cash flow considerably. When the lease was up for renewal we decided to establish the workshop back in our control and Alan moved on to start his own dealership. After a couple of years reestablishing ourself we put our hand up for the Fendt franchise with AGCO and got it. By this time we considered ourselves to have the best machines available to supply our customers with. In 2000 Gary French took over from his father who retired after 52 years in the machinery business which included being a founding member of the Gippsland Field Day committee. Since 2000 the company has grown from 5 to 12 staff today, to keep up with the current work load that appears to be changing every year. In 2006 R.E.N. was approached to take on other franchises, when another dealer closed its doors in Warragul, therefore we now have McCormick and Great Plaines tillage eqiupment added to our list of products to offer. |
